About
The department has a duty to keep the public informed. The Public Information Officer distributes information on crimes and incidents that matter to the community and responds to requests for information from the media. Media requests for comment go to the PIO or the Chief of Police.
Responsibilities
- Release information on incidents of public interest
- Respond to media requests and interviews
- Assist incident commanders with media at scenes
- Coordinate statements on official department business
Requirements
- Appointed by the Chief of Police
- Only PIOs and administration handle media relations
